It's not easy to know when Gallino's family had first started
producing wine, as the origins are lost in time. Perhaps the
Barbera and the Nebbiolo had already been produced before
Gallino Stefano was even born. (1856)
Wine business wasn't the principal activity in that epoch as
there are other fruits and peaches that are equally important.
Canale is famously known for the "Fiera del pesco"; which takes
place every year, in the last week of July, since 1908. Peaches
can be seen on every corner of the streets, which is now served
with the Birbet.
This is the best mix between the past and present of the town.

Gallino Felice (1904), with his brothers, started to produce the
first bottle of red wine. His son, Filippo Gallino in 1939,
discovered the “Azienda Agricola Filippo Gallino” and he decided
to give all his life to the production of typical Roero wines. |

The birth of the grape Arneis was in 1970. In 1972, Filippo is
the first to propose the bottled Roero Arneis to the market. The
winery soon reached a relief position for the good quality and
genuineness of the produced wines.
In 1988, the producers from all over Roero area changed the name
to Nebbiolo wine and he was thus given the name, "Roero". It
started to be well known on the international markets, for the
good ratio between quality and price.
Besides the production of bottled wines market, Filippo Gallino
also produced bulk wine.
More and more clients are enumerated to the family, building a
sincere and lasting friendship that is renewed every year.
The first bottles of Birbet were produced in 1992: a red,
sweet and sparkly wine unmistakable for its freshness and
intense aroma. |

Thanks to his friends, Matteo Correggia, Filippo and his son
Gianni, he produced the Roero Superiore and Barbera d'Alba
Superiore in 1994, coming from a fine selection of grapes and a
wise aging in small oak barrels.
After few vintages, it became an important reward from the most
famous guide, and this success will continue to open the doors
towards the international market. |

Filippo, Maria and their families still work together today,
performing all the jobs both in the vineyards and in the winery,
with the much help needed from their family members during the
busiest period of the year.
Participate at the harvesting together with all of Gallino's
families; rigorously done by hand, it’s a unique and
unforgettable experience. Just like performing a jump into the
past, tasting the atmosphere of the original harvesting process.
Have a bottle of Filippo Gallino in your table is like belonging
to his family, and when you happen to travel to Roero, don't
forget to have a little break in Valle del Pozzo, because you
will always find the door open for you...
